Xceive Makes Conventional CAN Tuners Obsolete With New Silicon Tuner

Xceive XC5000 Brings Breakthrough Functionality and Unmatched Performance to High Definition Televisions.

Santa Clara, Calif. – Jan. 8, 2007 – Xceive® Corporation, the market leader in multi-standard RF-to-baseband silicon transceivers for the digital home market, today announced its next generation silicon tuner, the XC5000. The XC5000 is the world's most highly integrated silicon tuner, with unmatched performance, innovative and unique features, unsurpassed reliability and ultra-small footprint. Delivering the highest quality images, while exceeding worldwide analog and digital TV requirements for terrestrial and cable reception, the XC5000 is positioned to replace the conventional CAN tuner architecture as the tuner of choice for the television market.

The demands of the consumer television market have evolved significantly - even within the last year. Consumers are looking for exceptional performance, increased functionality and unsurpassed reliability while television manufacturers are struggling to deliver on these expectations,” said Henry Choy, vice president of Display Electronics Research, DisplaySearch. “Xceive’s XC5000 brings unique functionality, like QAM compatibility, and performance numbers that well positions the company in exceeding the ever-changing expectations of the industry.

Optimized for large screen hybrid televisions, the XC5000 provides the world’s best sensitivity, adjacent channel, phase noise, and dynamic range. For analog televisions, the XC5000 meets an unweighted signal-to-noise-ratio of 54dB and a noise figure better than 6dB. These numbers consistently exceed the parameters of a typical CAN tuner resulting in higher quality video images and, ultimately, a better user experience. For digital televisions, the XC5000 exceeds, by a significant margin, all worldwide television standards including A74, OpenCable, and Nordig Unified requirements providing true high definition television for both terrestrial and cable reception.

Xceive’s XC5000 is designed to replace the traditional CAN tuners that, until now, have been the industry standard,” said Alain-Serge Porret, vice president of engineering and co-founder of Xceive. “The superior functionality, feature set, global standards compliance and reliability of the XC5000, make those prior-generation tuners obsolete.

With its high level of integration and quick response time, the XC5000 delivers functionalities and features that provide a unique differentiation compared to competitive silicon and CAN tuners. Xceive’s QuickTune™ takes advantage of the XC5000’s ultra fast per channel signal detection and provides a complete channel scan of more than 100 channels in less than two seconds. ChannelVista™ is Xceive’s advanced picture-in-picture (PIP) television technology providing multiple-PIP capabilities allowing the viewer to watch up to 12 video channels simultaneously around the main channel. The tuner also provides real-time performance monitoring of the key television parameters enabling unique end-user applications. By adjusting the gain of the RF front-end blocks in real time, the end user viewing experience is optimized regardless of external environmental changes on the received television signal.

The XC5000 is the only hybrid global television tuner with an integrated programmable DSP that optimizes the hardware to achieve world-class tuner performance. With this DSP, the on-board filters can be configured to meet all television standard requirements. As a result, the tuner meets and exceeds the requirements of ATSC, OpenCable, DVBT/C/H, DMB-TH and ISDB-T standards and can be used worldwide. The XC5000 also supports onboard demodulation of NTSC, PAL and SECAM TV standards.

By March 2007 the FCC will require digital tuners be built into all U.S. televisions. The XC5000 is optimized to meet all future requirements for NTSC and ATSC compliance and is well positioned to capture a major share of the U.S. television market,” said Jean-Louis Bories, president and CEO of Xceive.

The XC5000 is housed in an ultra-small (7mm x 7mm) 48-pin QFN package. It integrates all the SAW filters and video/audio demodulation in order to achieve a low BOM cost. With its on-board DSP controller, the XC5000 minimizes tuner-to-tuner performance variations and achieves very tight tolerance specifications and yield. It facilitates production testing through constant and accurate monitoring of key parameters including signal-to-noise ratio and signal strength. With these capabilities, the XC5000 lowers research, design and production costs, eases manufacturing processes and improves the quality and reliability for television manufacturers.

Xceive’s XC5000 outperforms any tuner on the market today and we look forward to helping television manufacturers upgrade their tuners with the XC5000 so that they can leverage this competitive advantage in the marketplace,” said Alvin Wong, vice president of marketing for Xceive.

Additional information, including a product brief, visuals and a block diagram for the XC5000 can be found at http://www.xceive.com/XCV_mediakit/products/products.htm. Samples of the XC5000 are now available. Production quantities will begin shipping in the second quarter of 2007. The XC5000 is priced at less than six dollars in volume quantities.
